Drummers? What do you need?

What do I need to become a professional drummer and have a remote session drummer?

Most of us automatically go to reading, speed, complexity in what we execute and other technical attributes that we think will put us in the sights of musical directors, producers and arrangers, and rarely do we think about what I will expose below, and I put all kind reader into consideration.

Music falls in love with the ears, these being the main translators to reach the mind and heart; However, we, in the desire to become the best, train our hands and feet, but not our ears, starting a frantic race against ourselves, losing sight of the fact that the most important thing to be able to be Musicians is "knowing how to hear", understanding by this the delicious virtue of paying attention to the other instruments, and responding audibly to the nuances, interpretation, sense of time and basic emotions to be able to lift the audience from their seat.

The second point, which, in my opinion, is also poorly observed or overlooked is time. As responsible for maintaining stable time in a band, we need to have an absolute conception and management of time, that means working incessantly with the metronome, but with the awareness necessary to not depend on it, but rather complement each other and make our internal time strong. That way, it will be easy and comfortable to play with us, and we will be happily required in any context.

Finally, knowing how to project the emotion of the composer to get the attention of the public. This point is undoubtedly one of the most forgotten, since we lose ourselves in the infinite universe of coordination and technical complexity, thinking that this will make us better musicians; it may make us better performers, but to be musicians we need to worry more about music than about the technical aspects of music.

The above is simply a thought out loud to reflect a little on the points that can lead us to be an active part of the wonderful musical art.

Ear, time and interpretation (or is it more? Instruments are part of the love of music)

I am very interested in your opinion on the matter, please comment on the note so that we can all complement and remember that to be a remote session drummer is an ally in the preparation of musicians always sharing information that is worthwhile.
